One of the greatest literary works of ancient India, the Ramayana has had a profound impact on art and culture. Ramayana is one among the epics of our country which unfolds the journey of Lord Sri Rama. This dance drama in a nutshell narrates the life of Rama, the legendary prince of Kosala kingdom, his banishment from kingdom by his father, his travels across forests with Seeta and Lakshmana, kidnap of Seeta by the demon king Raavana resulting in a war with him and Rama’s eventual return to Ayodhya to be crowned king. Balakanda, Ayodhyakanda, Aranyakanda, Kishkindakanda, Sundarakanda, Yuddhakanda and Uttarakanda are the seven kandas that are picturized in this act. Many virtues like perfectionism, honesty, obedience respect etc. can be derived from this act which are the characteristics explicitly shown by Sri Rama that needs to be followed by each individual through the practice of dharma. This epic helps to bind together many people of transcending caste, distance and language showing all the perfect way to practice dharma throughout one’s life.
