Lord Shiva’s tandava is described as a vigorous dance that is the source of the cycle of creation, preservation and dissolution. The dance is a pictorial allegory of the five principal manifestations of eternal energy: Srishti (creation), Sthithi (preservation), Samhara (destruction), Tirobhava (purity), Anugraha (emancipation). Thus tandava symbolizes the cosmic cycles of creation and destruction, as well as the daily rhythm of birth and death. This dance drama presents the well-known seven tandavas of lord shiva namely, Aanandatandava, Sandhyatandava, Uma tandava, gowritandava, Kaalikatandava, Tripura tandava and Sandhya tandava.
