Our country has witnessed several great women personalities and one among them is “Akkamahadevi”. “Shivasharane Mahaadevi” is a dance drama that is performed on the life history of Akkamahadevi. Being rebel and mystic she is one among the well-known women poets at medieval period. Her life and writing challenged the patriarchal dominance of the world at large. The act begins from her childhood days, adolescence, and marriage with Koushika Maharaja. The post events of her marriage brought a turn to her life where she sacrificed all the materialistic life and went in search of Chennamallikarjuna (shiva). Chennamallikarjuna was her beloved deity and she had tremendous bhakti towards the lord and also towards shivasharanas, jangamas and gurus. Her writings are famous then and now for her purity in her bhakti towards Shiva which is showcased in her vachanas.
